Correction: Luck + Talent + ______

A few days ago I wrote a review for Sarah Lacy‘s brand spanking new book, Once You’re Lucky, Twice You’re Good. You can read the review here. Yesterday, she gave an intimate book intro/reading/discussion/laugh-fest for a Girls in Tech event @ Bourbon and Branch.

Kylie Paris-Salb, a fellow slice blogger, and Erin Santy, a fabuu account manager, both from SHIFT, trekked down to the Tenderloin with me. A couple of lowballs of Elderflower and sidecars (Maker’s Mark, Cointreau & lime juice) later, our eyes had adjusted to the cool, dim lighting. We listened to her perspective, her relationships and anecdotes. Linda, a la Powerset, and I joked about keeping powershots in the fridge. (YUM!)

Afterwards, we convened for autographs. Like my post titled “Luck + Talent, Sarah Lacy’s New Book,” my first question for Sarah was “how much of your book’s success is due to talent versus luck?” Her answer surprised me with a third option: understanding the circumstances around you and knowing how to navigate through them. Thanks to Kylie, who captured the brief interview on the flip cam, including the answer to “if you were a fruit, what kind of fruit would you be and why?”

Next time, I’ll remember to bring my own lighting. 😛

Sarah: thanks for your sweet note, and I can’t wait to hear what your second book will be!
